Rebirth — Realism and Extreme
Rebirth lets an existing account move into a harder progression mode while keeping its possessions and completed content. Speak to The Chronicler at Home to begin.
Each account can complete one rebirth in its lifetime. It resets every skill and prestige, cannot be undone, and moves the account into the Reborn hiscores.
Who can rebirth?
Normal can rebirth into Realism or Extreme.
Realism can rebirth into Extreme, provided the account has never rebirthed before.
Extreme cannot rebirth or downgrade.
Group Ironman cannot use rebirth.
You keep your account type and its restrictions. For example, an Ironman that rebirths remains an Ironman.
Moving from Normal to Realism uses your one rebirth. You cannot then rebirth from Realism to Extreme.
What resets?
Hitpoints returns to level 10 with 1,184 XP.
Herblore returns to level 3 with 175 XP.
Every other skill returns to level 1 with 0 XP.
Prestige for all 23 skills returns to P0.
You begin at the new mode’s starting reward tier and must earn Mastery again. Realism begins at 25x XP; Extreme begins at 10x XP. Each skill’s rate falls as you prestige it.
What do you keep?
Your items and bank.
Completed content and unlocks.
Boons and remnants.
Your account type and restrictions.
Keeping an item does not let you bypass its skill requirements after the reset. Quest and diary XP you have already claimed cannot be claimed again.
How to rebirth
Speak to The Chronicler at Home and choose to begin a rebirth request.
Choose Realism or Extreme from the options available to your account.
Read the reset and keep details, then type REBIRTH REALISM or REBIRTH EXTREME when prompted.
Wait one hour. You can speak to The Chronicler during this time to check the remaining wait, review the reset or cancel.
Once the hour has passed, return to The Chronicler at Home and choose to complete your rebirth.
Read the final review, type RESET followed by your username when prompted, and complete any bank PIN or authenticator checks.
Before the final confirmation
Remove all equipped items. You must be alive, out of combat and at Home. Close your bank and finish any trade, duel or temporary activity before continuing.
The one-hour timer does not reset your account automatically. Once it expires, the request can no longer be cancelled, but the reset only happens after you meet the requirements and confirm with The Chronicler.
Fresh and Reborn hiscores
Fresh means the account has never rebirthed. An account created directly in Realism or Extreme starts as Fresh.
Reborn means the account entered its mode through rebirth, retaining possessions and completed content. Realism and Extreme have separate Fresh and Reborn hiscores groups. A Reborn account cannot return to Fresh.
If rebirth does not complete
Follow The Chronicler’s message. If asked to reconnect, log out and back in, then speak to him again. You can check the status of your existing request with him.
