Realism & Extreme — Early Preview

August 28, 2026iceomen

Realism and Extreme are two new progression modes with slower XP rates, stronger prestige perks, improved PvM unique chances and a one-time option to rebirth into a harder mode.

One of the players asked for enough information to start planning around Realism and Extreme, so here is where the modes currently stand.

None of this is live yet. We are still testing everything, and some numbers may change before release.

What are Realism and Extreme?

The idea is simple: slower XP and a much longer prestige grind, but much stronger rewards as you progress through it.

These are account progression modes, separate from Ironman restrictions. You will be able to combine them with:

  • Regular

  • Ironman

  • Hardcore Ironman

  • Ultimate Ironman

Group Ironman and Hardcore Group Ironman will stay Normal-only for the first release.

Once you choose a progression mode, you cannot downgrade it. Realism accounts will only be able to move to Extreme through their one lifetime rebirth.

XP rates

XP rates are tracked separately for each skill.

If your Attack is P8 and your Strength is P3, Attack will use the P8 rate while Strength uses the P3 rate.

  • P0: Realism 25x — Extreme 10x

  • P1: Realism 25x — Extreme 10x

  • P2: Realism 23x — Extreme 9x

  • P3: Realism 20x — Extreme 8x

  • P4: Realism 18x — Extreme 7x

  • P5: Realism 15x — Extreme 6x

  • P6: Realism 13x — Extreme 5x

  • P7: Realism 10x — Extreme 4x

  • P8: Realism 8x — Extreme 3x

  • P9: Realism 5x — Extreme 2x

  • P10: Realism 3x — Extreme 1x

Event, equipment, boon, donor and temporary XP bonuses will still apply normally.

Mastery bonuses

Realism and Extreme will unlock larger bonuses as the account builds prestige across different skills.

You will not be able to rush a few easy skills repeatedly. Each mastery requires both total prestige and progress across a minimum number of skills.

  • Starting bonuses: Available immediately

  • Mastery I: 50 total prestige and 10 skills at P3

  • Mastery II: 100 total prestige and 15 skills at P5

  • Mastery III: 200 total prestige and 20 skills at P8

Realism

  • Starting: +10% eligible unique chance, 3% extra-copy chance and 10% cheaper prestige

  • Mastery I: +20% eligible unique chance, 8% extra-copy chance and 15% cheaper prestige

  • Mastery II: +30% eligible unique chance, 15% extra-copy chance and 25% cheaper prestige

  • Mastery III: +40% eligible unique chance, 25% extra-copy chance and 35% cheaper prestige

Realism will also earn 50% more remnants from every paid prestige.

Extreme

  • Starting: +20% eligible unique chance, 5% extra-copy chance and 15% cheaper prestige

  • Mastery I: +35% eligible unique chance, 12% extra-copy chance and 25% cheaper prestige

  • Mastery II: +50% eligible unique chance, 22% extra-copy chance and 35% cheaper prestige

  • Mastery III: +70% eligible unique chance, 35% extra-copy chance and 45% cheaper prestige

Extreme will earn twice the normal remnants from every paid prestige.

Boon prices will remain the same. Realism and Extreme accounts will not be able to use prestige vouchers.

Stronger prestige perks

Realism and Extreme will receive stronger versions of the existing prestige perks. These bonuses are exclusive to the two slower modes. Normal prestige perks will not change.

The current planned P10 bonuses are:

  • Attack: 36% additional melee accuracy

  • Strength: +12 max hit and a 36% double-hit chance

  • Defence: 30% PvM damage reduction and 16% reflected damage

  • Ranged: 36% additional accuracy, +12 max hit and a 36% dual-projectile chance

  • Magic: 36% additional accuracy, +12 max hit and a 36% double-cast chance

  • Prayer: 60% damage through supported NPC protection prayers and 40% more benefit from offensive prayers

  • Hitpoints: +40 maximum Hitpoints and 1 additional Hitpoint regenerated per tick during combat

  • Gathering: A 100% chance for an extra resource and a 92% auto-bank chance

These are the P10 caps. The bonuses will build across the prestige ladder rather than appearing all at once.

Combat prestige bonuses will remain disabled in PvP. Ultimate Ironman accounts will not receive the auto-bank effect.

How the unique bonuses work

The eligible unique bonus is not a blanket drop-rate increase.

It only applies to approved tradeable PvM uniques. A +70% bonus improves the item’s existing chance—it does not give the item a flat 70% drop chance.

For example, a 1/100 unique with a +70% bonus becomes roughly 1/59 before any other bonuses are applied.

The extra-copy chance is a separate roll. If you receive an eligible unique and the duplication roll succeeds, you receive one additional copy of that same item.

Current planned coverage includes:

  • God Wars Dungeon

  • Cerberus

  • Dagannoth Kings

  • Corporeal Beast

  • Vorkath

  • Demonic Gorillas

  • Nightmare

  • Nex

  • Chambers of Xeric

  • Theatre of Blood

  • Tombs of Amascut

The bonuses will not apply to:

  • Pets

  • Jars

  • Cosmetics

  • Clues and caskets

  • Points or currencies

  • Guaranteed rewards

  • Untradeable unlocks

  • Wilderness and PvP rewards

  • Unsupported drop sources

Desert Treasure II vestiges will also be excluded from the first release because of how their hidden progress works.

There will be a maximum of one extra unique stack per player per encounter. Other double-unique effects will not stack with the mode duplication roll to create three or four copies.

Fresh and Reborn accounts

Each mode will have separate Fresh and Reborn hiscores:

  • Realism Fresh

  • Realism Reborn

  • Extreme Fresh

  • Extreme Reborn

Fresh accounts chose their mode when the account was created.

Reborn accounts moved into a harder mode while keeping their existing items, unlocks and accomplishments. They will be kept out of Fresh hiscores so the two groups are not competing from completely different starting positions.

Rebirth

Every account will be able to complete one rebirth during its lifetime.

The available paths are:

  • Normal to Realism

  • Normal to Extreme

  • Realism to Extreme

Extreme accounts cannot rebirth. Cancelled requests will not use the account’s one lifetime rebirth.

Rebirth will be handled by The Chronicler at Home.

After choosing the harder mode, there will be a one-hour waiting period. You can cancel the request before that hour finishes.

Once the request is ready, nothing resets automatically. You must return to The Chronicler, meet the completion requirements and confirm the rebirth yourself.

Before completing it, you must:

  • Be at Home

  • Be alive and out of combat

  • Have no equipment worn

  • Not be banking, trading, duelling or inside temporary content

  • Complete your Bank PIN or 2FA check if your account uses one

  • Type RESET followed by your account name

If you are not ready, the request will stay waiting until you return.

What rebirth resets

Rebirth will reset:

  • Hitpoints to level 10 with 1,184 XP

  • Herblore to level 3 with 175 XP

  • Every other skill to level 1 with 0 XP

  • All 23 skill prestiges to P0

  • Current mastery progress

  • Current prestige-derived bonuses

  • Hiscore XP and prestige progress

  • Active boosts, prayers and other temporary combat effects

Your new XP rates will start from the target mode’s P0 rate.

What rebirth keeps

Rebirth will keep:

  • Bank, inventory and stored items

  • Items and currencies

  • Quests

  • Achievement diaries

  • Combat achievements

  • Collection log

  • Tasks and contracts

  • Player-owned house

  • Pets

  • Kill counts and personal bests

  • Boons

  • Remnants

  • Donator status and credits

  • Tool attunements

  • Earned prestige titles

  • Max and completionist unlocks

  • Other permanent unlocks

  • Settings and account security

Completed quests, diaries and other one-time rewards will remain claimed. Their XP and rewards cannot be collected again.

Rebirth itself will not award remnants. You will begin the harder mode at P0 and earn that mode’s full remnant rewards as you prestige again.

When will this be available?

There is no release date yet.

The modes still need live testing, particularly the stronger prestige perks, unique bonuses, separate hiscores and the full rebirth process.

Once we are happy that everything works properly, we will confirm when the modes are opening.
